Stikharions
6 itemsThe sticharion is the long, full-sleeved white or colored robe worn by everyone serving in the altar — bishops, priests, deacons, and altar servers alike. Ours are hand-sewn in our Florida workshop to the wearer’s measurements, in any liturgical color, with the embroidered trim of your choice.
Browse the sticharions below, or send us measurements for a custom fit.
About the sticharion
The sticharion is the oldest piece in the Orthodox vestment tradition — it comes directly from the long Roman tunic worn for baptism and for any solemn occasion in the early Church. White symbolizes the purity of baptism. Colored sticharions (gold, blue, green, red, etc.) mark the liturgical season.
Who wears one
- Priests and bishops wear the sticharion under the rest of their vestments.
- Deacons wear it as their outer robe — so a deacon’s sticharion is usually more visibly trimmed and embroidered.
- Subdeacons, readers, and altar servers wear a plain sticharion (often called an “altar robe”) over their cassock.
Fabric and trim
Most sticharions are made of brocade, silk, or a heavy cotton-linen blend for everyday use. We trim the cuffs, hem, and front panel with embroidered or woven gold braid. Tell us the wearer’s tradition and preferences and we’ll suggest a design.
Frequently asked about stikharions
What measurements do you need?
Five at minimum: total height, neck, shoulder width, sleeve length, and garment length. For a closer fit also send chest, waist, and back width.
Do you make sticharions for altar servers?
Yes — we have plain altar-server sticharions in white and colored fabric. They are sized the same way as clergy sticharions.
What colors do you offer?
Full liturgical range: white, gold, red, green, blue, purple, black. If you need a specific shade for a feast or parish color, send us a sample or reference.
How long does a custom sticharion take?
4-8 weeks for a standard sticharion. Faster if we have your fabric and trim in stock.
Can I get matching sticharions for the whole altar?
Yes — sets for the whole serving team (priest, deacon, two altar servers) in the same fabric are a common order.
