Analogion Covers

23 items

Analogion covers — the embroidered cloths that drape the analogion (in Slavic use, the analoy), the sloped lectern and icon stand used throughout the Orthodox church — are made in our Florida atelier in every liturgical colour, with fully embroidered crosses, icons, or inscriptions.

Browse the covers below, or order a coordinating set to match your altar covers and vestments. Send us the dimensions of your analogion and we will size the cover to fit.

What an analogion cover is for

The analogion (analoy) is the sloped stand that holds the festal icon for veneration, the Gospel book during readings, and the service books at the kliros. Because it stands in the open nave where the faithful approach to venerate, its cover is one of the most-seen textiles in the church after the altar itself — and, like the altar cover, it changes with the liturgical season.

A well-made analogion cover does two things at once: it dresses the stand to the colour and feast of the day, and it protects the wood and the icon from wax, oil, and the wear of constant veneration.

Sizes and styles

  • Festal analogion covers — draped over the sloped icon stand in the centre of the church, sized to overhang the front and sides. The most frequently ordered cover.
  • Kliros (chanter's stand) covers — for the reading desks at the choir, usually plainer, in the parish's working colour.
  • Wedding / memorial analogion cloths — white or gold for weddings, dark for memorials and Great Lent.

Liturgical colours

Analogion covers follow the same calendar of colours as the rest of the church's textiles: gold for most Sundays, white for Pascha and Theophany, red for martyrs and Holy Week, blue for feasts of the Theotokos, green for Pentecost and Palm Sunday, purple for Great Lent, and black for funerals and Lenten weekdays. Most parishes order gold first, then add seasonal colours so the analogion always matches the altar.

Measuring and coordinating

When you order, send us the width and depth of the analogion's sloped top and how far you want the cover to hang on each side. Many parishes order analogion covers together with matching altar covers and chalice covers so the whole sanctuary is finished in one brocade — ordering the set together guarantees the colours align and saves over buying each piece separately.

Frequently asked about analogian covers

What is the difference between an analogion and an analoy?

They are the same thing — "analogion" is the Greek term and "analoy" the Slavic one for the sloped lectern and icon stand used in the Orthodox church. An analogion cover (or analoy cover) is the embroidered cloth that drapes it.

What size analogion cover do I need?

Send us the width and depth of the sloped top of your stand and how far you want the cover to hang down each side (15-25 cm is typical). We cut every cover to your measurements, so it overhangs evenly without pooling on the floor.

Can the cover match our altar covers and vestments?

Yes. If you order analogion covers together with altar covers or send us a photo of your existing set, we match the brocade and embroidery exactly. Ordering a coordinating set at once is the surest way to keep the colours aligned.

What colours should a parish start with?

Gold is the most-used colour and the right first cover, since it suits most Sundays of the year. From there most parishes add a dark cover (purple or red) for Great Lent and Holy Week, then white for Pascha, building a full seasonal set over time.

How long does a custom analogion cover take?

A standard embroidered analogion cover takes 3-6 weeks. Covers with a full embroidered icon panel take 6-8 weeks. Tell us your deadline when you order and we will confirm the schedule.
